The Long Goodbye

Held me as a child
now your children hold you
Dad's hands
shaking and numb.
Haven't really eaten food.

He remincses
The life and times
like he's here
the warmth right there
there's a crack in the laugh

How much worse could it get
it already hurts to be alive
I can't imagine the decision
of freedom or love.
Children holding your hand,
when really you were holding on

The spirit carries on, the love carries on
all we have left, will carry on
forever in our hearts
will be the long goodbye.
